One Year of ASFOS: A Different Kind of Family Office

ASFOS just turned 1 year old. From the outset, the ambition has been less about scale and more about depth: a Swiss outsourced CIO and family office built on independence, purpose, and long-term partnership.

ASFOS marked its first anniversary on 15 May 2026 – a small milestone for a young firm, but an important one for the clients who entrusted us with their capital and their confidence. Over the past 12 months, the focus has been on building a resilient investment architecture and a working rhythm that fits the specific realities of each family or principal, rather than pushing a standard product.

The ambition is not to become a large platform, but to scale thoughtfully within a niche: a handful of high-conviction client relationships where the model can create real, multi-generational impact. This means saying “no” more often than “yes”, keeping the number of mandates deliberately limited, and investing disproportionate time in understanding the overall balance sheet, governance, and family dynamics behind each mandate.

Practically, the first year has been about 3 things. First, establishing clarity: helping clients see their total wealth picture across banks, jurisdictions, and structures, so that decisions are made on facts rather than fragments. Second, installing discipline: defining investment policies, risk parameters, and reporting that are robust enough for institutional scrutiny but pragmatic enough for families. Third, creating space for better decisions: acting as a sparring partner who challenges assumptions, protects against misaligned incentives, and keeps conversations anchored in long-term objectives rather than short-term noise.

Being an outsourced CIO and family office from Switzerland brings with it both responsibility and constraint. Responsibility, because independence has to be proved in every decision and every recommendation. Constraint, because staying small, selective, and conflict-free is a strategic choice, not a temporary phase. ASFOS will continue to grow only insofar as this independence, and the quality of work behind each relationship, can be preserved.

To clients, collaborators, and friends who have been part of this first chapter: thank you. The next years will not be measured by assets under management or marketing reach, but by whether the families we serve feel better equipped, better informed, and better aligned to steward their capital over generations
